Union Square Park: 40 years of farmers markets, public art, and neighborhood life in Manhattan.

About Us

Fourteen acres at the intersection of Broadway and Park Avenue South have been drawing New Yorkers together since long before the subway ran beneath them. Today, Union Square Park is managed by the Union Square Partnership, a community-based nonprofit founded over 40 years ago with a single clear purpose: keep this neighborhood thriving for the people who live, work, and visit here. With a 4.6-star rating across more than 17,000 reviews, the park earns its reputation block by block, season by season.

What sets this place apart from other Manhattan green spaces is the texture of daily life you find here. The Union Square Greenmarket draws farmers, bakers, and flower growers from across the region, filling the plaza with produce and plants that visitors consistently call extraordinary. A dedicated dog run, shaded benches, and public art installations give the park a layered character that rewards a slow walk as much as a quick lunch break.

The Partnership does not simply maintain the park. It actively shapes the neighborhood through events programming, business development resources, and long-range planning initiatives like the 14th Street Plan. Every activation, every art installation, every Greenmarket day is part of a deliberate effort to make Union Square one of the most purposeful public spaces in any American city.

What We Offer

The Union Square Greenmarket runs regularly on the park's north plaza, offering seasonal produce, cut flowers, artisan goods, and prepared foods from regional farms. It is the kind of market that turns a Tuesday errand into a genuine discovery. Check the events calendar on the Partnership's website for market days and special programming.

Beyond the market, the Partnership produces public art programming and plaza activations that rotate throughout the year, so the park always has something new to offer. Business owners and entrepreneurs in the area can tap into USQ industry cluster resources, economic reports, and neighborhood studies that make the Partnership a genuine civic partner, not just a maintenance crew. A newsletter keeps the community current on every development, and a merch store lets supporters take a piece of Union Square home.

Planning and advocacy round out the work: BID expansion planning and the 14th Street corridor initiative represent the Partnership's long view, ensuring that the neighborhood's public spaces and commercial corridors grow thoughtfully alongside the city around them.

"I actually liked this more than Bryant park. I thought the way they set up this market was very good for the flow of people, you can easily move around and it wasnt overly crowded. All the vendors were great, lots of unique gifts and souvenirs, and delicious food. I am still dreaming about the marshmallow hot chocolate and the birria grilled cheese."

"Stumbled on the Union Square Greenmarket and wish I were local cause I would 100% be a regular! The produce and flowers/plants were incredible, but since I couldn’t take those home with me as easily, I decided on crystals 😍 The greenmarket is open Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sat, 8am-6pm year-round! You can’t miss it!"

"This historic park was designed in 1872 by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the designers of Central and Prospect Parks. It’s now a major and vibrant hub for both tourism and local life."
